The Kicheko Woman

fortitude comes in many forms

It’s in the reach of my arms, the span of my hips, the stride of my step, the curl of my lips...

It’s in the fire in my eyes, and the flash of my teeth, The swing in my waist, And the joy in my feet...

It’s in the arch of my back, the sun in my smile, the ride of my breasts, the grace of my style...

It’s in the click of my heels, The bend of my hair the palm of my hand, the need for my care

I’m a woman phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, that’s me.

On a gorgeous June morning, the Kicheko lookbook team ventured to an abandoned seminary estate just outside of DC. Caught between historic elegance and modernization, we were grateful to find half of the grounds untouched and unkept. The historic portion of the glen featured seminary dormitories, ball and reception rooms, stoic statues, wild grasses and stone houses. The modernizing portion of the grounds featured newly renovated condos in the former academic buildings. Darker hues, stems resembling antlers, and bold colors composed the first look. As the sun rises, the mysterious grounds are slowly illuminated and the novelty of finding something unknown yields a sense of freedom and play. The second look is light, whimsical, and colorful accented by a fresh and bright makeup palette. As they explore this place that seems so other, meandering revives something that stays with them even as they return to the city.
